John Ross Clyde
March 6, 1937 – August 8, 2017
Our beloved father, John Ross Clyde, peacefully passed away on August 8, 2017 in the arms of his dear wife, Ann, and with his loving family gathered around him.
John was born in Heber City, Utah to John Ellis Clyde and Emma Cummings Clyde in a home filled with love, music and laughter. It was in this home where he developed an intense love of family and country and dreamed of flying. He graduated from Wasatch High School where he played football, baseball and basketball and made many life long friends. He played football for SUU in Cedar City and then graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Business. Dad went on to receive a Masters in Business Administration from Webster University.
He returned to Heber to marry his sweetheart and the love of his life, Ann Thacker. They were married for over 60 years, raised four daughters and traveled the globe. Mom and Dad were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple December 1975.
Lt. Col. John R. Clyde fulfilled his dream of love for country and the sky and spent over 26 years as a United States Air Force pilot. One of those years was spent in Vietnam where he served his country as a Forward Air Controller flying solo missions over North Vietnam. For this service, he received numerous awards and medals, including The Distinguished Flying Cross.
Dad was truly an officer and a gentleman. A man of quiet, calm demeanor, a great listener and a man of few words. But, when Dad had something to say he was a powerful teacher. He taught us the value of hard work, to be honest in all of our dealings, that family is first and to love the Lord.
A life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Dad served in many callings, as well as, three Bishoprics. He knew his most important calling was that of husband and father and he excelled in this calling. All who knew him loved him, but none more than his five “girls”.
John is survived by his loving wife and eternal companion, Ann Thacker Clyde, and three daughters, Kathleen (Thomas) Mulcock, Julie (Todd) Bangerter, Jodi (Robert) Call, sister, Donette Hewitson, brother, Dee Clyde, thirteen grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren. His parents, sister, Colleen Mantyla and his beloved daughter, Kristin Michelle, “Krissy”, preceded him in death. They are all now joyfully together.
We express our thanks to Dr. Doug Mower, Dad’s personal physician, Aspen Senior Care, Symbii Hospice and Highland Glen Senior Living for their kind and loving service.
