Joe Coleman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and “pillar of the community,” passed away peacefully at his home on February 19th, 2016, in Heber City, Utah. Born January 2nd, 1939, to Delbert T. and Sylvia Neilsen Coleman, Joe was the fourth of seven children and had a full childhood fishin’ the Provo River, riding passersby’s bumpers, and picking peas off the pea trucks as they passed. As a student at Wasatch High he was a popular “two-time all-state” athlete and was cheered on by his high school sweetheart and true love of his life, Joyce Giles, whom he has been married to for 58 years. Joe spent a lifetime and found great joy in unconditionally loving and serving his family and friends, traversing the world for their activities and constantly reminding them, “You’re more than welcome.” Never one to shy from hard work, Joe embraced his role as a provider and spent most of his life as a rancher in Bridgeland, Utah and came to win the Uintah Basin Farmer of the Year. His industrious spirit carried on past his ranching career when he took up working at Geneva Steel being named Steel Worker of the Year. An avid member of the LDS Church, Joe served dutifully and faithfully in his various callings and always sustained and supported others in theirs. He was “the world’s best driver,” most conservative Republican, proudest American, and always said there was “no fool aroundos.” He’ll be remembered for his tremendously generous heart and wonderful sense of humor which stayed with him until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William, Keith and Tom Coleman; sister Mary Milliner; and brother-in-law Ron Hiatt. Joe is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters, Carla Coleman, Lesa Coleman, Sondra (Wayne) Folau, and Heidi (Todd) Blanch; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Kathryn Hiatt and Shirley (Ed) Trimble; sister-in-laws, Bonnie Coleman, Mary Jo Adamson and Leila Coleman.
