Joan Marie Boogaard Wright, 89, died peacefully Thursday, April 28, 2022. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4th at Probst Family Funeral Home, 79 E. Main St., Midway. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m on Thursday, May 5th, at the Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, Utah.
Joan was born on July 30, 1932, in Murray, Utah, the fifth child of Marinus and Minna Boogaard. She attended Granite High School. She married Earl Eugene Wright on June 29, 1949, in the Salt Lake City Temple. She was a devoted wife and a woman of faith. This was evident in her encouragement and support when Earl traveled to New Zealand soon after their marriage to serve a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout her life Joan worked tirelessly to fulfill all church assignments, along with providing constant care for their large family. Later in life, Joan happily served alongside her husband on two missions, both to Nauvoo, Illinois.
Joan touched hearts, one at a time, with her candor, kindness and warmth. She impacted the many who she welcomed to her home. Often Joan’s dining table was filled, yet she would make room for one more. Along with delicious meals, guests shared lively conversation, sampled her famous homemade caramels and felt the love that emanated from her.
Joan was a loving mother of nine children: son Terry and wife Susan, son Tadd and wife Lukie, son Randy and partner Eliza McGaha, daughter Colleen and husband Lhomond Jones, daughter Joanie and husband Gary Spencer, daughter Angela and husband Bret Weekes, daughter Heidi and husband Alan Warenski. She dearly loved her 57 grandchildren and 102 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl and two sons, Sam and Tim.
