Joan Kinsey Duke passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on March 29, 2021 in her home, in the presence of her husband and children.
Joan was born on March 12, 1933 to Floyd and Viola Giles Kinsey. She married her husband, Larry Bert Duke, 67 years ago in the Salt Lake Temple, and is survived by her husband Larry, and her five children – Mark (Kay), Mary Anne Taukiuvea (Viliami), Laural Takashima (Tak), Robert (Dorinda), and Steven (Suzanne). She is also survived by a sister, Gaye Webster (Bert). She was the grandmother to 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Joan was a woman of many abilities and talents, particularly in music. She began to play the organ in Primary, and was an organist for church, community musical groups, and numerous funerals.
Joan was a woman of great faith and service, and unselfishly served her family, her friends and neighbors, her community, and her God. She was particularly proud of her service to the peoples of New Zealand and Africa, having served three missions with her husband.
We will all miss her, but her faith, and our faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ, gives us comfort and hope for a joyful and glorious reunion with her.
We wish to thank all medical personnel who participated in Joan’s care, and wish to especially thank the hospice services provided by Applegate Home Care and Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to the Foreign Missionary fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
