Janis M Haueter Oleson

February 17, 1945 — January 18, 2023

Janis Oleson passed away peacefully in her home on January 18, 2023, in Midway, Utah, surrounded by her loving husband, John Raymond Oleson, and her seven children.

Janis was born on February 17, 1945 in Heber City, Utah, to Jay O. and Edith Hylton Haueter. She is the second of three children. She grew up in the beautiful Heber Valley where she enjoyed the freedom to roam, surrounded by the beautiful Wasatch Mountains. She loved riding her bike through town and going to the Saturday matinee for .14 cents. Time spent on the family farm in Midway involved help with the many chores including driving the tractor during hay season and feeding and milking the dairy cows. She learned to play the piano in her teen years and held a love of music throughout her life.

Janis attended the local elementary and high school where she was a good student with many friends. She graduated from Wasatch High School with the class of 1963. She attended Brigham Young University, graduating in 1967 with a teaching degree. There, she met and fell in love with her husband John. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City temple on May 31, 1967.

She was a devoted wife. mother, and grandmother who constantly placed the needs of her family above her own. She treasured spending time with family and loved camping and hiking. She never sat still; she was constantly busy and lived life to the fullest. She taught her children and grandchildren the value of hard work and loved working in her yard.

Wherever John and Janis lived, Janis was committed to serving those in her community. She was an example of love and charity to all who knew her, constantly attending to the needs of her family and others, even in the final moments of her life. She served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served two full-time missions with her husband John. At the time of her passing, Janis was serving as an ordinance worker in the Provo Utah Temple. The way she lived her life testified that she knew Jesus Christ was her Savior.

She is survived by her husband, John R. Oleson; her children, Rebecca (Chad) Randall, Lynette (Mark) Smedley, David (Kristi) Oleson, Jana (Paul) Talbot, Michael (Tami) Oleson, Mary (Conrad) Pack, and Aleisa (Kevin) Price; 41 Grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister Barbara Thacker; brother Hylton (Diane) Haueter; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Edith Haueter.
