Jane LaMay Humphreys, 86, died January 4, 2024, in Provo, Utah. She was born May 23, 1937, in Ephraim, Utah to Clifford Roberts and Florance Carolyn Wilson Roberts. They would live here while waiting for their house to be built and moved back to Tabiona, UT when she was 2 years old. She married Joseph Charles Humphreys on October 13, 1962, in Logan UT where they lived as she finished her studies in education. While in school she worked at Morton Thiokol corporation as a secretary earning herself the title of the best coffee maker around although her sister NaDean might have been in a friendly competition over the title of who’s coffee was actually the best! When LaMay graduated from Utah State University her family decided to move back to Tabiona where she started teaching at Tabiona public school. She continued to be a dedicated teacher for over 32 years and had the opportunity to teach many children in numerous grades in the valley. Throughout her career she was involved in many extracurricular activities including drill team advisor and yearbook staff advisor. She taught summer school, art classes including ceramics and was involved with the community arts programs. She had a love of working with the 4H horsemanship program, little buckaroo rodeo, and putting on 4H horse shows.
She enjoyed warm summers with her family picking choke cherries and elderberries, putting up jams, fruits, and vegetables from her ever-expanding garden.
After her retirement from teaching LaMay never showed signs of slowing down. She dove into porcelain doll classes, crocheting for humanitarian relief, starting her own greenhouse business, and coaching the grandkids on how to work the farm.
LaMay dedicated her time to her family and was often found with one of the grandchildren or great grandchildren doing various activities, whether it was pulling weeds in the garden or baking some homemade treats and bread from scratch. She was there making sure the experience was full of grace and tough love.
Her passion for others continued as a member of The Church of Latter-day Saints, serving many years with the relief society, where her love of music and the gospel flourished. Her faith in the lord was unwavering as she showed this through her countless acts of community service from making her sourdough scones for the DUP on the 4th of July parade to donating beautifully crocheted blankets for various occasions. Serving others brought her so much joy.
She showed her strength and compassion as a devoted sister, spouse, mother, and grandmother. Her family was the most precious gift. To know LaMay was to know a best friend, she cherished everyone and made sure you knew it. No matter where you were in life, she would always welcome you with open arms and the warmest of hugs ,she celebrated your highs and helped you through the lows. No matter what, she wasn’t concerned with what time you showed up or what you came with, she would always be prepared, as long as you made it safely.
LaMay's infectious laugh and beautiful soul will forever be cherished in the hearts of the many people she was able to share her blessings with.
