James Harris Jenkins Jr.

November 14, 1941 — February 15, 2018

James Harris Jenkins, Jr. (Jim) was born on November 14, 1941 in Jacksonville, Florida to James Harris Jenkins, Sr. and Lillian Travis Haight. Jim, aka Grandpa Jim, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Grandpa Jim was first and foremost a family man. His wife, Dian, was the love of his life and they were happily married for over forty-three years. Together they raised six children and he was the proud grandpa to nineteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, with another great grandchild on the way.
Jim lived a life of service starting with his service in the United States Army in the 101st Airborne. In addition to this, he served his community by teaching gardening and photography classes. He served his church in numerous callings with his favorites as a Sunday School teacher, Gospel Doctrine teacher, Scoutmaster and his most beloved calling as a temple worker in the Provo Temple. He had a deep love for the Savior. Serving others in whatever capacity he could, especially when it involved teaching the gospel was extremely important to him. He spent much of his life following Jesus Christ.
He had a big heart for the strays in life. It was not uncommon for Jim to come home with a stray cat or dog, or to help a person in need. He would bring them in, feed them, provide a home or a bed or whatever they needed, always giving them the benefit of the doubt. He emulated his Savior, showing love for his fellow man though his service and kindness to others.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and his sister Janet (Herschall) Rose. He is survived by his wife Dian Childs Jenkins, his children, Michael (Kristine) Jenkins, Holly Daniel, Valynn (David) Christie, Sherry (Jason) Jenkins, Leah Jenkins, Adam (Tonya) Jenkins, his brother, Merrill Denney and his sister, Laura Purrington, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
We will celebrate Jim’s life on Monday, February 19th with a viewing from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. We will have an additional viewing on Tuesday, February 20th from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. All services will be held at the LDS Chapel located at 250 East 200 South, Midway, Utah.
