James Moroni Besendorfer passed away peacefully at his home on February 2, 2025, six days after his 97th birthday. He was the son of Noah and Nancy Casper Besendorfer born on January 27, 1928, in Charleston, Utah. Moroni (Roni), grew up on the family farm located near the Provo River and spent his childhood milking cows, taking care of chickens, fishing in the Provo River, and hunting. He remembers when the marvels of indoor plumbing and electricity were introduced to his home. He graduated from Wasatch High School in 1946. Two years later, he married Karma Rasband of Heber City in the Salt Lake Temple. Moroni had many callings and served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Moroni is a veteran of the Korean War having had experiences that forever changed his life. He worked as a 6th grade teacher at the old Central Elementary School and as the principal of Midway Elementary where he become lovingly known as "Mr. B". He was a cattle rancher and also served for two terms as Wasatch County Commissioner.
Moroni and Karma are the parents of three children, James M. (Lila) Besendorfer, Jeffrey R. Besendorfer, and Laurie Jean (Gaylen) Bywater. They have 8 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. Moroni was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Karma, his sisters and their spouses, Lavern (Burt) Cardell, Erma (Ron) Phillips, Waldie (DaNiel) Clegg, JoAnn (Pete) Burnson, and sister-in-law Jane Besendorfer. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Besendorfer. He is survived by his brother John Besendorfer.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 11 :00 a.m. in the Charleston Ward Building, 3450 South 3500 West, with a viewing being held one hour prior to the services. Also, a viewing will be held at the Charleston Ward Building on Monday, February 10, 2025 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Charleston Cemetery following the funeral services.
