Our beloved son, family member, friend, and colleague, Jacob Daniel Whiting, died tragically in a car accident in Summit County on October 22, 2023, at the age of 25. Jake was born February 12, 1998, to Debbie Graybill Whiting of Heber City and Bret Whiting of Salt Lake City. He is survived by his parents, extended family, and a host of wonderful friends.
Raised in Heber City, Utah, Jake attended Soldier Hollow Charter School where he learned to cross-country ski. Jake enjoyed swimming, football, woodworking, and his friends. He graduated from Wasatch High School and completed a year at Utah Valley University before becoming a plumbing apprentice. Jake became an excellent skilled plumber and craftsman.
While school was not always his favorite subject, he possessed a practical, innovative, creative intelligence and wisdom beyond his years. He began working at a young age and had numerous, varied jobs in Heber Valley throughout high school, developing skills and a work ethic that served him well. Jake excelled at work, and he became a strong advocate of the trades.
Jake was always up to something and always up for fun. He loved the great outdoors and grew up camping, hiking, fishing and hunting with his dad. He loved snowboarding, rock climbing, and fishing trips to Alaska. Jake loved music of almost every genre, especially live concerts with friends. He recently purchased his first property, a house in Salt Lake, and liked working on home improvement projects.
Jake had a genuine interest in others and a curiosity about life. Jake’s strong, gentle presence and authentic smile lit up the room. His friendly warmth, kindness, and humor will be missed by all who know and love him. Jake’s innate generosity continues, as he was an organ donor.
His memorial services and celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 1:00 PM at the Soldier Hollow Grill in Midway, Utah.
