Helen Dorene May
September 14, 1937- August 5, 2020
Dorene passed away August 5, 2020, peacefully and quietly at home, from complications of a stroke. Dorene was born September 14, 1937 in Tremonton, Utah. She lived most of her life in Olympia, WA where she met and married Julius May in 1967. They had one son, Lance, and 3 grandsons (Anthony, Nathan and Christopher).
The early years of her young family life included gardening, canning, sewing, reading and supporting youth activities and sporting events with her son. She enjoyed long car rides and traveling on Sunday afternoons which filled many weekends visiting areas in the Pacific Northwest. Dorene also spent 30 years working on the Fort Lewis Military Base as a civilian worker where she retired at age 60.
After Julius and Dorene both retired, they moved to Heber City, Utah to be closer to their family. Julius and Dorene were both active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in the Provo temple on a weekly basis. Even after Julius passed away, Dorene still spent 10 years serving in the temple. It was the highlight of her week along with the “girl” talk that took place on that car ride!
Dorene spent the last 2 years in Sandy, Utah, living with her family. Although challenging at times, it provided a great opportunity to see and be near her grandsons, whom she loved dearly. She was excited to have visited many places over the past few years including Hawaii, Alaska and Texas. She’s enjoyed birthdays riding in helicopters and hot air balloons, but certainly not without a lot of prodding on Lance’s part.
Dorene was anxiously looking forward to a wonderful reunion with her husband, whom she has missed for the last 12 years and also with her parents who both passed away when she was a child. She spoke of them often and longed to see them again. We are excited for this joyous occasion. She will be missed by all the family and friends that knew and loved her.
Thank you to Aspen Ridge Hospice for the kind and gentle care they gave to her and the family in her final days.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 10:30 am at the Heber City Cemetery 680 North 550 East, Heber City UT
