Helen Garrett

Our beautiful mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed from this life to the next on Monday morning, January 29, 2018. Helen was born on May 31, 1919 in Philadelphia, PA to Carl J. Wehmeyer and Helen Catherine Griesbach. She was raised by her adoring grandparents and then later by her father and stepmother, Ida Wehmeyer, during the Great Depression. She was industrious, talented and a very hard worker. After her marriage to Elwood G. Garrett, they relocated to Miami, Florida where they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and raised their two daughters Doris Garrett Ohm and Lois Garrett Cozens. She worked for 23 years at Miami-Dade College as a secretary to the Vice President until she retired. Helen was the happiest when surrounded by her family and loved ones. She loved the gospel, sharing her testimony, and many dear friends. Helen is survived by her two daughter Doris Ohm (Ray) and Lois Cozens (Stephen Matherly), her three grandchildren, Chris Cozens, Stephanie Ohm Steelman (Ryan) and Kevin Cozens, and three great grandchildren, Lily, Parker and Sam Steelman. She was remembered in in a private family service and laid to rest at the Midway Cemetery.
