Heather Brooke Petersen

Our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend Heather Brooke Petersen passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018 from the results of a car accident. She was born in Heber City, Utah, on April 26, 1994, to Michael Paul and Josee Z. Petersen.

Heather was a student at Wasatch and Graduated from American Heritage School in 2012. On May 13, 2013, she eagerly embarked to serve a mission for the LDS Church in San Pedro Sula East, Honduras. While she was there she touched many lives, continued to grow into an amazing young woman, and found a love of teaching those around her. When she returned from her mission in 2015, she began attending Utah Valley University where she was pursuing her dream of becoming an elementary teacher.

Heather spent many hours at the shooting range where she fine-tuned a skill she came to love. She developed a love for cars and all things accompanied with them; the Dodge Challenger was her dream car, and she had a small car collection. Heather always loved singing and was a member of her high school’s Chamber Choir. She accompanied her love for singing with her passion for ballroom dance, spending many hours at camps to develop her skills.

Heather loved children: she spent last year as a teacher’s aide for the 3rd grade class at her alma mater American Heritage School. Her dream was to teach a class of 3rd graders. Children were one of Heather’s greatest sources of joy, she could spend all of her time with children and be perfectly happy. Heather was an easy-going, service-oriented, and kind-hearted person who tried to help all those that she could. She truly saw others as Christ did, and helped each person to reach the potential she saw in them.

Heather loved baking, and often found herself baking to help clear her mind. She loved spending time with her sisters; Katie, Emilie, Chelynn, Syviah Jade, Alexa, and Cierra. Often times she would have weekly sister dates with her beloved sisters, spending time one-on-one with them to give them sisterly and loving advice, as well as the friendship only someone like Heather could provide. Often times people looked to her as a sister because of the love and compassion she showed to everyone.

Heather knew who she was and stuck to that knowledge, never once budging on the values she held so close to her heart. She had a strong personality and loved old-fashion values which helped compose who she was. She always kept a level of class that accompanied her wherever she went. She was strong and family-oriented; her family, including cousins and other extended family members, were some of her closest friends and were what she really held dear in this life.

Heather was a very spiritual person, who strived to follow Jesus Christ daily. She recently served as the Relief Society president in her single adult ward and was known for serving others often. She also had a close relationship with her Heavenly Father and her Savior and lived a life full of faith.

Heather loved to travel and had many adventures while traveling. After graduating high school, she lived in Brazil for 6 weeks where she stayed with family friends who she saw as family. She spent a lot of time traveling through South America making stops in Peru, the Bahamas, Honduras, and Mexico.

Heather is survived by her parents Mike and Josee Petersen; siblings Jason and Christy Petersen (Avondale, AZ) and their two sons Dominic and Isaac; Katie and Aaron Airmet (Provo, UT) and their three children Emma, James, and Lincoln; Emilie and Ben Donovan (Orem, UT); Chelynn and Austin Meredith (Salt Lake City, UT); Carsten (Texas Dallas Mission); Syviah Jade; Alexa; Cierra; Ehren; and her Brazilian siblings Julio, Elton, Jessica, Daniel, and Matheus. She was greeted on the other side of the veil by her Grandfathers Pendleton and Petersen, Aunt Debbie, Uncle Dean, Aunt Heather, and cousin Stuart.

We will celebrate her life this Saturday January 20, 2018 at the Heber East Stake Center located at 2400 South 1200 East Heber Utah at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held Friday between 6–8:00 pm and Saturday 9–10:30 am. Everyone is welcome.
