Grant Darwin Casper

October 11, 1925 — October 8, 2023

Grant Darwin Casper, 97, passed away on October 8, 2023, in Heber City, Utah. He was born October 11, 1925, in Daniel, Utah to William Glen Casper and Joyce Viola Bell. He and his high school sweetheart, Eleanora Davis, were married for 56 years beginning on December 1, 1943, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Shortly after, he was commissioned into the United States Army, November 8, 1944, where he served valiantly in Livorno (Leghorn), Italy during World War II. He brought his commitment to service home with him, where it permeated every aspect of his life.
His love for Jesus Christ and his gospel was woven into his service as a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served for 13 years as Bishop of the Daniel Ward. Then for many years as a stake high councilman and temple worker. He also served as ward historian in his later years and participated in a pioneer trek where he personally recorded highlights of the trek.
Grant was a skilled craftsman, and owned his own cabinet shop for several years, and later excelled as a construction superintendent. Even in retirement, his passion for woodworking endured, as he created handcrafted treasures for his family and friends.
Grant served a pivotal role in his community as the president of the Daniel Irrigation Company. His leadership was instrumental, especially during the implementation of the sprinkler system.
Despite his numerous responsibilities, Grant was never too busy for his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He ensured his door was always open for people to visit and they left with a full heart. He loved spending time with them outdoors: backpacking, camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing. He instilled a love for the outdoors in his family—capturing those memories with both his heart and his camera. He loved taking photos and videos of the areas around him and had a special love for the High Uintah Country. Well into his 90s, Grant would hike Big Hollow with his dog and drive in the mountains with his family.
Grant’s love for family extended far beyond the living, reaching back through generations to honor those who had already passed on. His passion for family history moved him to gather the genealogies and preserve the stories of his ancestors.
The three things Grant treasured most were his family, his testimony, and the outdoors. His kindness, compassion, and care touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is preceded in death by Eleanora (wife), Glade Luke (son-in-law), Kevin Luke (Grandson) Lola Carlile, Lavern Ellis, Nelda Duke (sisters).
He is survived by his children Darlene Luke, Jerel Casper, Nora Watts, Kenneth Casper, Janese Weatherford and Joyce Loftus; 47 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
