Georgia Dawn Johnson Clegg

June 12, 1929 — March 11, 2018

On a beautiful Sabbath morning, March 11, 2018, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Georgia Dawn Johnson Clegg, having been born of goodly parents, completed her earthly mission and returned to her Heavenly Father to join loved ones who had preceded her. She was the last remaining member of her childhood family. She was 88 years old. She lived almost her entire life in beautiful Midway, which she loved. When occasionally asked if she had lived in Midway all her life, she always replied, “Not yet.”

Georgia Dawn was born on June 12, 1929, in Heber City, Utah, to George William Johnson and Jennie Luella Pyper Johnson. She attended Midway Elementary School, going on to Wasatch High School where she graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1947. She also graduated from seminary. She attended classes at Brigham Young University. She worked for several years as Deputy County Clerk, Recorder, and Auditor for Wasatch County, with Alfred Sharp and then with Wayne C. Whiting.

Georgia Dawn served an LDS Mission to the North Central States Mission from 1950-51. She returned after the mission and was married to Dennis A Clegg in the Salt Lake Temple, with Elder Spencer W. Kimball officiating. Within a few months Dennis was drafted into the army and was deployed to Heidelberg, Germany. Georgia Dawn joined him there for the next year and a half. While living in Germany they were able to adopt their first daughter, Jeanine. They were able to travel over much of Europe and visit many historic places.

On their return they built their home in Midway and added children who now survive her: Jeanine Clegg and children--Lars (Becky) Nielson and Jennie (Garth Gaylord); Carol Dawn (William Poulter) and children--Bryon (Danielle), Craig (Trenda), Bethany (Jake Deines), Cameron (Sonja), Adam (Anna), April (Dallin McClanahan), Andrew, and Dallin; Keith (Carol) Clegg and children--William, Chris (Eden), and Ethan; Jonathan (Julie) Clegg and children--Matthew (April), Natalie (Matt Humes), Michael, Nathan (Kathleen), Daniel, and Rebecca; James Barton (Calleen) Clegg and children--Cyla Dare (Garrett McBride) and Maesen Truth; and Melvin James and children--Tyrin (deceased) and Alexsis. Also 26 great-grandchildren.

To Georgia Dawn the most important things in her life have been family, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, temple work and missionary work. She has been a faithful Church member all of her life, serving in many callings in the various organizations of the church, each one her favorite. She served as scribe to Patriarch Ralph F. Giles for his entire years of service, with the exception of some short intervals.

Georgia Dawn has been a temple ordinance worker since March 1993. With her husband, she has served in the Provo, Mt. Timpanogos, and Nauvoo Temples. She and Dennis served a Stake Employment Service Mission, and in 2003 a Nauvoo Temple Mission. She has a strong and fervent testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and a deep and abiding love for her Savior, and heartfelt appreciation for many blessings and tender mercies over the years of her life.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her brothers, Max George Johnson, William Lowell Johnson, and Keith Pyper Johnson; her sister, Ruth Anna Johnson; and a grandson, Tyrin James. Besides her husband Dennis, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she is survived by a beloved sister-in-law, Lila Mae Johnson, and many nieces and nephews whom she cherished and loved, especially Susan, Lynn and Robin, Ross and Arnette, and a cousin, Wilma.

The family would like to express abundant appreciation to those who gave loving and tender care to her: her sweet hospice nurse, Lisa Nelson, Dr. Esplin and PA Jeff, Dr. Henderson and PA Brad, Dr. Clark, Dr. Pitts, and Susan Kohler. We will be forever grateful for their love, kindness, and generous time to Georgia Dawn.

Viewings will be held Thursday, March 15, 6-8 pm and Friday, March 16, 9:30-10:30 am both at the Midway Utah Stake Center, 250 E 200 S. Funeral services will follow at 11 am. Interment following the funeral service will be in the Midway Cemetery, Midway, Utah.

Georgia Dawn has requested that no flowers be given. She has had many beautiful flowers brought to her in the past weeks and months, and has loved and cherished every one. Over the years she has grown beautiful gardens of flowers which have brought her pleasure. Instead of flowers for funeral services, please take one to someone who is lonely or sad or hurting, and give them her love.
