Gene Ralph Broadhead, affectionately known to many as "Butch," passed away on May 12, 2026, in Provo, Utah. Born on September 8, 1948, in his cherished hometown of Heber City, Utah, Butch lived a life rich with devotion to family, country, and the majestic outdoors that so deeply inspired him.
A proud veteran, Butch served honorably in the Army as a Military Police officer, a testament to his steadfast dedication and courage. Beyond his military service, he was a true son of the mountains—his spirit forever intertwined with the rugged beauty of nature. Gene found great joy in camping under starlit skies, fishing tranquil streams, gold panning with eager hands, and tanning hides with the patience and skill of a seasoned craftsman. His hands also crafted medicine man sticks, each telling a story of tradition and reverence.
Perhaps his most enduring legacy was the gift of knowledge and experience he imparted to his children. He delighted in rock hounding adventures, teaching them the art and wonders of the earth’s hidden treasures, fostering both curiosity and respect for the natural world. His fondest memories were those spent embracing the laughter and innocence of his grandchildren, moments filled with love and the simple joys of family.
Butch was the beloved son of the late Ralph and Mary Broadhead and dear brother to Glade Broadhead, Janet Mitchell, and Bonnie Porter—all of whom he now joins in eternal rest. He leaves behind a cherished circle of living family members who carry forward his legacy: his devoted sister, Connie Beers; son, Brandon Broadhead and his children Fayth and Emma Broadhead; daughter, Brianna Russell and her children, Ashlynne and Abel Russell; and son Travis Broadhead and his children, Sadie and Waylon Broadhead—each a vibrant testament to the life and love Butch shared.
The community and family are invited to honor and remember Gene “Butch” Broadhead at a viewing held on May 19, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Heber Valley Funeral Home, located at 288 North Main Street in Heber City, Utah. Following this, a graveside service will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Heber City Cemetery, 680 North 550 East, where friends and loved ones may pay their final respects.
Gene Ralph Broadhead’s life was one marked by steadfast loyalty, deep connection to the natural world, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved most dearly. His spirit endures in every mountain breeze and glimmering gemstone, in the hearts of his family, and in the timeless beauty of the land he so reverently embraced.
