Born July 31, 1940 in Heber City Utah, died July 20, 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Son of Ernest J. Bates and Jessie Witt Bates. Survived by wife Shonnie, seven children: Jennifer (Chris) Lee, Tracy (Lynn) Kinsey, Melissa (Travis) Hastings, Adrienne (Wry) Jay, Wesley Bates, Arlin Bates, and Nathan (Carly) Bates. 19 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and brother, Arlin J Bates (Joyce).
Preceded in death by parents, brother Norman Bates, sister Darlene Bates, daughter Theresa Bates.
Served honorably in the US Army Special Forces. Worked in food service. Fondly known by his family as “Le Chef”. His motto was “Come to me all whose stomachs cry out in anguish and I shall restore you”.
