Our father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Gary Louis Rasmussen left this earth to be with his Heavenly Father, peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Monday, October 14, 2024 at age of 78. Gary was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, October 23, 1945 to parents Louis and Mary Rasmussen and was raised in Provo, Utah.
He served two tours in Vietnam and received his purple heart. He later worked for the DAV as a veteran caseworker.
He married Vicki LaNell Hooper in 1967, moved to US Army Fort Hood, Texas for six months and then returned home to Provo and had two children, Todd and Shannon. Four years later, they moved to Okinawa Japan for 2 1/2 years and then returned home to Utah and had three more children, Danica, Heather and Cassidy. They bought a house in American Fork and lived there until 1985. He was then divorced and moved back to Provo. He remained in Provo until 2022 and then moved to Heber city to Spring Gardens Assisted Living where he was very well taken care of by staff, Home Health and Hospice and was able to be near his children.
Gary was an avid hunter, fisherman/outdoorsman. He was a collector of marbles, and stamps and loved the Utah Jazz and country music. He loved spending his time with his family and grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his five children: Todd (Michelle) Rasmussen, Shannon (Corbin) Bateman, Danica Mauldin, Heather Sorensen and Cassidy Rasmussen; brothers, Mark Rasmussen and Leland Rasmussen; 12 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jeanette; and grandson, Sawyer Embry Rasmussen.
Graveside services for immediate family and friends will be held at Orem City Cemetery on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 1:00 PM.
