Frank Hixson Hortin passed away peacefully on January 13,2019 in Wallsburg, Utah with his loving wife by his side. Frank was born in Wanship, Utah on July 28,1929 to Arthur Charles Hortin and Hazel Jane Hixson. He graduated from North Summit High School and after high school he was drafted into the Army where he served and was a veteran of the Korean War. Frank was a lifelong member of Plumbing & Pipefitter's Local 19 of Salt Lake City Utah and helped build many of the buildings that dot the Salt Lake skyline. He was also one of Wasatch County's most respected farmers and ranchers.
Frank married Mavis Ann Ford on May 12, 1956 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Temple on March 27 ,1976. Together they had three children: Rohn Ford (Audrey), Leslie Ann Smith (Roy) and Jay D. (Heidi).
Frank was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and throughout his life he served willingly and faithfully in many callings including Home Teacher, Clerk in the Bishopric and Primary Teacher. He also served his community as a Wallsburg Town Councilman where he was over the cemetery and earned his nickname “Digger”. Frank was a member of the Wasatch County Junior Livestock Committee and a longtime member of the Wasatch County Weed Board. Frank and Mavis lived and worked side by side for 62 years raising a family, creating a beautiful home and garden, working with their children and grandchildren on the family farm, and cheering for BYU and the Utah Jazz.
Frank is survived by his wife and children, ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one brother John (Cleon). He was preceded in death by his parents, his Step-Father Ed Street, two sisters Mar (Jim) and Loraine (Vern) and his brother Chuck (Diane).
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wallsburg LDS Chapel. Viewings will be held Friday, January 18, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Wallsburg LDS Chapel and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the service. interment will be at the Wallsburg Cemetery.
