Frances Joye Handy—a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother—passed from this life on October 27, 2026. Joye was born in the Old Miner’s Hospital on January 15, 1929, in Park City, Utah to Francis Henry (Fritz) Carpenter Jr. and Evelyn Clark. Her father died when she was 7 years old.
She attended the Washington and Marsac Schools in Park City and graduated from Park City High School in 1947. Joye later attended LDS Business College and worked for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she met Lawrence Glenn Handy. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 24, 1956. They were blessed with four children: Alan, Laura, David, and Julie.
Larry and Joye raised their children in Salt Lake and Brigham City, Utah; Los Gatos, California; Rockledge, Florida; Rancho Palos Verdes, California; Naperville, Illinois; and Sandy, Utah. After Larry retired, the couple built a home in Pinebrook (Park City), Utah. When Larry passed away in 2001, Joye moved to Logandale, Nevada and later West Jordan, Utah.
Besides raising her own children, she served as a foster mother to over 80 babies/young children, to which she gave her love.
Joye served church missions with Larry (Family Tree and Salt Lake Inner City Mission), and later in the Church History Department.
Joye enjoyed sewing, quilting—she made hundreds of quilts, most of which she gave to the Humanitarian Center for distribution to the poor—reading, decorating cakes, playing 5 Crowns, anything sweet, and spending time with family. And she loved Christmas!
Joye was mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to many who enjoyed her good humor, heartfelt warmth, and genuine, loving kindness. Joye is survived by her children Alan (Noriko) Handy, Laura Handy, David (Robyn) Handy, Sharon (Roy) Voeks; 26 grandchildren; and over 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry, daughter Julie Kirk, son-in-law Malcolm Kirk, grandchildren Kristine Kuehn and Lance Kirk, sister Jean Smith, and brother-in-law Guy Smith. She is now reunited with her eternal sweetheart Larry and others who preceded her.
Funeral services will be held November 7, 2026, (viewing 9:30AM/funeral 11:00AM) at 7115 S. 3200 W., West Jordan, Utah. Interment in the Park City Cemetery.
