Flora Simmons Mecham Dunbar Wilkins

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend Flora Simmons, Mecham, Dunbar, Wilkins passed peacefully on Saturday, October 1, 2016. She was born in Charleston, Utah on July 21, 1926 to Violet Daybell and Heber J. Simmons and was the 7th of 8 children.

She married Tom Udel Mecham and made their home on the farm in Wallsburg, Utah. They had 3 children Leonard, Linda and Garry. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Tom died on July 4, 1950 and in 1952 she married Jim Dunbar and moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma. He had 4 children and 2 of which Raymond and Deanna lived with them and were raised by Flora. They had 2 daughters in their marriage Shirley and Lorri. After 7 years in Oklahoma they moved to Heber City for 3 years then moved to Denver, Colorado. Jim died on the job in 1966. In 1970 She married Wayne Wilkins and they made their home in Salt Lake City. He had 3 children Rick, Larry and Alfa. He died in 2010.

Flora liked to crochet and enjoyed making large afghans. She enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. She collected spoons and had a large collection. If you caught her in the right mood she would pull out the harmonica and entertain for a while. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She loved all and made friends everywhere she went.

She is preceded in death by her parents Heber and Violet; her siblings Dean, Marvin, Lester (Wanda), LaVerl (Barbara), Nelda (Max), Anny Lou (Rulon), Ross Giles and her daughter Linda Murphy.

Survived by her sister Fay Giles; children Leonard, Garry, Shirley, Lori, Deanna and Raymond. She has 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

We would like to sincerely thank Jessie Anderson and her staff at Sante Assisted Living for their care of mother during her stay and Applegate Hospice for their care during her last week.

Graveside service will be held at 12:00pm on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Wallsburg Cemetery. Prior to the graveside service there will be a viewing from 10-11:30am at Probst Family Funeral Home (79. East Main St., Midway, Utah).
