1923-2018

Eugene Owens was a son of Andy Ray and Lilly Josephine Hortt Owens. He married Shirley Rothwell on 2 November 1946 in Arco, Butte, Idaho, marriage later solemnized in the Manti Temple.

He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in World War II for 3 and a half years as a Machinist’s Mate, Second Class. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy he farmed and raised his family in Sutherland, Utah. He was also a builder and later, as a Construction Superintendent, and built schools, churches and other buildings throughout the Western United States. He and Shirley moved to Midway, Utah in 1975 where Eugene served as chairman of Swiss-Days for many years, on the City Council and as Mayor for two terms.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Shirley R. Owens; children, Judy Kaye (Arthur) Smith of Wellsville, UT; Robert Eugene (Sharon) Owens of Grantsville, UT; Gary Ray (Kathlene) Owens of West Valley, UT; and Allan John (Jeanie) Owens of Mesa, AZ; 25 grandchildren; 87 great-grandchildren; and sister Shirley Skeem of Delta. He is preceded in death by his parents; 5 sisters, 4 brothers and 2 grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday, December 8th at 12:00 PM (noon), at the Memorial Hill Ward Building (250 East 200 South, Midway). A viewing will also take place from 10:00-11:30 AM prior to the services. Condolences can be shared at probstfamilyfunerals.com
