Elwood David Snider

May 1, 1940 — September 10, 2023

Our dear dad and grandpa, Elwood “Woody” David Snider, 83, passed away on September 10, 2023 while in hospice care in Heber City, Utah.

Woody was born in Salt Lake City to Ernie and Mildred Snider. He grew up in the Poplar Grove neighborhood and attended West High. After high school graduation, he attended the University of Utah, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.

While attending the U, he met Dale Richards. They wed in 1962, in the Salt Lake Temple. Woody and Dale lived and raised four children in the Salt Lake Valley, before moving to Heber City upon his retirement. They were married for 60 years.

Woody served in the United States Navy, and was stationed at Coronado, CA. He worked for Larry H. Miller for more than 25 years.

Woody was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a favorite teacher. From Sunday School to priesthood classes, his knowledge, guidance, and empathy were invaluable. He also served in numerous priesthood leadership roles, including being a member of a few bishoprics.

Woody knew his way around a home remodel and was forever in the middle of DIY house projects. He was a lover of fixer-upper cars and trucks. He was a kind, helpful neighbor, always ready with a smile, a chuckle, and a joke. He adored clogs and wore them much longer than he ever should have. He was an avid Utah Jazz fan.

His children, grandchildren and extended family are going to miss his unassuming nature, his wit, irreverent sense of humor, and his unwavering patience.

Woody is preceded in death by his wife Dale, his parents Ernie and Mildred Snider, and his brother Emerson. He is survived by his daughters Lisa Snider, Nicole Tischmak and Danielle Haroldsen (Mark), son David (Jennifer), and grandchildren, Erin, Nick (Dioné), Lizzie, Sarah, Kate, Hannah, Grace, and Emma.

Woody’s family would like to thank the many caregivers at Rocky Mountain Care in Heber and Lindon as well as his hospice nurses – especially Britney Harvey. Their care and consideration filled Woody’s last months with kindness, compassion, and dignity.

Woody’s family is holding a memorial service on Saturday, October 7, 4:00 pm, at Heber Valley Funeral Home, 288 N Main Street, Heber City, Utah. People can call on the family from 3:00-3:45pm prior to the service.
