Elva Wright

November 4, 1932 — October 14, 2021

Elva Leahy Wright, 88, peacefully passed away at home in Heber City, Utah on Thursday October 14th, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 4, 1932, in Heber City, Utah to Matt & Verda Leahy.

Elva grew up in the Heber Valley with her parents and five siblings. She graduated from Wasatch High School in the class of 1950. Elva married her husband Gaylen S. Wright on December 21st, 1957 and together they raised two children.

Elva had an incredible work ethic instilled in her at a young age by babysitting through high school. The Cumming’s Family was her favorite. She then began her career in the restaurant business working at Chick’s Café for the then owner, Red Wood. In 1954, Gaylen Wright purchased Chick’s Café, and Elva continued her employment with him until eventually marrying him. Together they operated Chick’s Café over the next 50+ years.

Elva’s favorite part of working in the Café was meeting new people, and the friendships that came along with that. Elva was an amazing cook, and throughout all the years in the Café, was very generous in handing out meals, soup, scones, pies, or whatever, to those in need, and delivering it to their homes.

Elva developed a favorite pastime from the late 80’s and over the next 20 years by attending games played by the Utah Jazz. Her and Gaylen would attend as many home games as possible per season, and she became a great fan.

Her all-time favorite thing to do in the latter part of her life was to spend time with her grandchildren and great grand-children, and did a wonderful job at spoiling and bragging about them all. They were the light of her life, and she loved each and every one of them dearly.

Elva is survived by her daughter, Shelley Ryan, Charleston, and Joey Wright (Lynette), Heber City. Five Grandchildren, Rope (Marissa) Ryan, Jordan (MaKayle) Wright, Amanda (Jentry) Youd, Jace (Sarah) Wright, and AbrieAnn Wright. Seven Great-Grandchildren. Sister, Patricia (Jim) Duke, Heber City, Avona Wright, Springville, Charlene Leahy, Elko Nevada, and many nieces & nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, Matt & Verda Leahy, Husband, Gaylen Wright, Sisters, Johnnie Clyde, VerDawn Nelson, Bill Leahy, and Annette Thom.
