Ellen Gardner Peterson

April 1, 1929 — September 29, 2021

Ellen Gardner Peterson, at the age of 92, passed away on Sept 29 2021 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 1, 1929 in Wallsburg Utah to Orval & Georgia Gardner. She married Virl Ewing Peterson on May 28, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Ellen learned to play the guitar, piano and organ without formal training. She enjoyed doing so many different things like: painting, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and calligraphy-she really liked neat penmanship. Bowling was a favorite that she enjoyed for almost 30 yrs. Ellen liked fixing people’s hair from a young age, started her own business and worked it until she was about 85, and said up until the last days of her life that she wished she could still do hair. Her senior year of High School she was the class president, and always enjoyed the class reunions. Ellen had numerous callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints some long (primary secretary 19yrs), and some not so long and for many years she was the ward organist. She said that one of her favorite callings is when Virl and her were called to be nursery leaders together. The children loved them and always called them Grandma and Grandpa even when they saw them in the hallways. There is so much that she loved to do; visit people, go to garage sales, travel (even if it was just a ride up into the mountains). She loved her family-children, nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Every one of them thought, then and even now, that they alone were Grandma’s most favorite. Such is her love.
Ellen is survived by her sons Brad (Shauna), Bart (Carrie), Bret, daughter-in-law Kelli Peterson, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, sister Linda Hanks, sister-in-law Lois Gardner.
Proceeded in death by parents, husband Virl, a baby boy, daughter Julie Tubbs, 3 grandchildren, Marc Kohler, Cole Peterson, Jordan Kohler, 2 brothers Mack, Clayton Gardner and sister Ida Bigelow.
A special thanks to Applegate and Natalie Thurgood for their love, care and compassion.
