Eleanor Louise Scown

February 20, 1944 — August 24, 2023

Ellie Scown (née Anderson) passed away unexpectedly on August 24, 2023 in Heber, Utah at the age of 79, with her devoted husband Ken at her side.

Ellie is survived by her husband Ken, her daughters Anna Cornell of Pleasant Hill, California and Julie Nirula of Lake Oswego, Oregon, as well as her dearly loved grandchildren, Dean Cornell of Martinez, California; Heather Cornell of Klamath Falls, Oregon; Kieran Nirula of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; Arun Nirula of Carol Stream, Illinois, and Rowan Nirula of Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Ellie was born on February 20, 1944 in San Francisco, California to Charles and Virginia Anderson. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962. She met the love of her life, Ken Scown, shortly thereafter, and they married in 1963, starting their lives together on the East Coast as Ken was serving in the Navy. At the end of his service they returned to California and built a life together with their two daughters in the Bay Area. After their daughters graduated high school, Ellie and Ken embarked on many adventures together all across the U.S., living in several different locations throughout the Midwest and visiting at every opportunity with their daughters and their families for vacations and holidays.

Ellie had a creative spirit and as a homemaker was a skilled seamstress, knitter, and gardener; she was also an avid reader who in turn became an author. She was a fun-loving, kind, and giving woman with a wonderful sense of humor. Ellie believed in the importance of finding the good in life, as well as always finding a reason to laugh. She looked for the best in everyone, and her devotion to her family – and later, her cherished grandchildren – was unmatched. Though Ellie’s presence is greatly missed, her positive influence on those who knew her will live on forever.
