Ed Rehill passed away peacefully at home on Christmas Day after a short and valiant battle with cancer. His wife Caroline was by his side, as always. Ed had an enormous generosity of spirit; his positive outlook and engaging sense of humor touched all who knew him; what he will be remembered for most was his kindness, humility, integrity and loving heart. If you saw a guy driving an SUV, rescuing a stranger with car troubles, it was Ed. He was ‘that’ guy. He gave to others with everything he had, emotionally and physically. He was decency personified and will be greatly missed.
Ed spent his formative years in Decatur, IL, where he developed a love of hockey and immediately after high school played semi-professional hockey for a small team in Central Illinois. After graduating from Southern Illinois University, Ed worked in the hospitality industry for many years in the Midwest. He came to Salt Lake on a consulting assignment, but never lost touch with his boyhood friends from Decatur. Ed met the love and light of his life, Caroline, in 1993 and once she showed him Park City, he was hooked and that’s where they decided to settle. They were married on October 10, 1998. Ed had an adventurous spirit and loved showing Caroline the world – they traveled through Australia, Italy, London, Paris, Mexico, the Virgin Islands, Nova Scotia and a place very special to Caroline’s heart, Prince Edward Island. Ed fully embraced life in Park City; the beauty, the people, the sports and the lifestyle. When knee and shoulder injuries diminished his time on the slopes and links, he and Caroline packed up the dogs in their motorhome and shared adventures all over the US. He was also content with a good book as long as Caroline and their loving pooches were nearby.
Ed enjoyed an enormously successful real estate career, working with many of the areas largest developers at Brook Hollow, Deer Mountain, Tuhaye, Red Cloud and ultimately The Montage, where he was Director of Sales in the early years. He consulted with numerous other developers before transitioning to the resale side of the business when he joined the Deer Valley Real Estate Guide team at KW Park City Keller Williams Real Estate. His colleagues respected Ed enormously, and he was highly-regarded for his kindness in guiding others with his extensive knowledge of the industry, particularly new construction.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Edwin Vincent Rehill and Helen Brady Rehill and his brother John E. “Jack” Rehill. He is survived by his loving wife Caroline, and cherished family members Irma, Amaury (Danielle), Rick (Shelly) and Vicky; and his beloved nieces and nephews.
Services for Ed will be held at Shepherd of the Mountains Church in Park City on Saturday, January 6 at 12:00 noon with former Pastor Victor Nelson officiating. Vic married Ed and Caroline in 1998 at Shepherd of the Mountains but has since retired. He is honoring them by returning to Park City to officiate Ed’s service. A reception to remember and honor Ed’s life and meet his family will be held at Jeremy Ranch Country Club after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite animal rescue organization are encouraged. Ed was an enthusiastic supporter of The Angel Fund at Park City Animal Clinic – Dr. Carl Prior (435) 649-0710.
