Our beloved father, husband, grandfather, brother, and friend Douglas J. Rollins, 76, of Goodyear, AZ, passed away on February 6, 2022.
Doug was born on September 24, 1945, to Sperry Covington Rollins and Marian Kathryn Buehler Rollins in Heber City, Utah. He grew up in a loving home with his sister Shauna and two brothers, Bob and Scott. Doug was a natural athlete from a young age and lettered in football, baseball, and basketball at Wasatch High School in Heber City, Utah. He attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah, where he played baseball and graduated in recreation management in 1968. After college, he was drafted into the United States Army and spent two years in Fort Lee, VA. He was honorably discharged after two years.
Doug became a proud father to Matthew Douglas Rollins in 1970 and Christopher "Kip" Sperry Rollins in 1973. In 1984, Doug married Mary Quaderer LaFramboise, and they blended their families. Doug instantly welcomed her children Christy, Lori, and Sydni as his own.
Doug started his 32-year career working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) after his time in the service. His first job with the BIA was at Intermountain Indian School as an administrator, athletic coach, and mentor in Brigham City, Utah, until the school's closure in 1984. In 1984 he was transferred to Sacramento, California, where he finished his career with the BIA. He loved his job and helping others. He loved to share his experiences and hoped his influence helped those around him. He established many lifelong relationships during his time at the BIA. He retired in 2002.
He was a devoted father and husband and was determined to provide for his family and give them a meaningful life. He cherished the time when he got to watch his kids play at their sporting events. He loved playing a round of golf with his boys. As a proud, fair, and honest man, he encouraged his kids to be their best. Doug was an avid golfer and a diehard Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan. He introduced golf to his wife Mary, and they spent time enjoying the game of golf. Once Doug retired, he was able to spend more time playing golf with friends and family. He was a popular guy at the beloved Sunset Whitney Country Club in Rocklin, California, where he met many lifelong friends. Mary and Doug went on several couples' golf trips which they enjoyed. Doug loved to share stories of history, his childhood, and sports.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his two brothers Robert (Linda) Rollins and Scott (Susan) Rollins; his two sons and three stepdaughters, Matt (Stacy) Rollins, Kip (Annette) Rollins, Christy (Steve) Maki, Lori LaFramboise, and Sydni (Chris) Aguirre; and his 14 grandchildren, McKenzie, Coleman, Paige, Bailey, Cole, Cooper, Taylor, Courtney, Dylan, Brooke, Alec, Logan, Malena, and Olivia.
