Douglas Smith Huber

October 26, 1932 — July 11, 2016

Douglas Smith Huber passed away peacefully on July 11, 2016 in Reno, NV from complications of a recent stroke. Doug, the oldest of 5 children, was born at home on October 26, 1932 to Alma and Nettie Huber in Midway, UT.

Doug graduated from Wasatch High School in 1950 and then attended Utah State University. While at USU he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and Army ROTC . He graduated with a BS and MS in Dairy Science. Upon graduating he received his commission in the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and was stationed in Maryland and Germany.

After his military service Doug began a lifelong career working for Safeway in their Dairy Division. He managed several ice cream manufacturing plants in the US and Canada before moving to the corporate offices in Walnut Creek.

While at USU Doug met Donna Quayle and they were married on October 7, 1954. They enjoyed 62 years of married life. With their two children, Patricia and Stephen, they moved and experienced new things wherever Doug’s job took them. They loved their family camping and fishing trips to Reds Meadows, CA each summer.

When he retired from Safeway, Doug and Donna moved to the Carson Valley where they have lived for the past 23 years, spending their winters in Yuma, AZ. They enjoyed being with family and travelling together all over the world. They were always most happy being together!
Doug will be remembered for the great love he had for his family and his great generosity. He was always willing to step in and help whenever he could. He delighted in watching his family grow and was so happy for their accomplishments. He was a hard worker and an avid gardener and could fix almost anything.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Donna, son Stephen (Rachel) Huber of Wilford ID, daughter Patricia (Eric) Sturgess of Minden, NV, thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He is also survived by all of his siblings: Don (Arlene) Huber of Logan, UT, Edith (Jack) Young of Heber, UT, Annette (Larry) Giles of Provo, UT and Mark (Colleen) Huber of Twin Falls, ID.
