Dee Elmo Sabey

If I could write a story it would be the greatest ever told. One of a kind and loving father who had a heart of gold. I could write a million pages but there is one thing I would say, just how much I love him every single day.

Dee Elmo Sabey moved on to the green pastures of heaven on March 18, 2020, with his loving children by his side. Dee was born in Wallsburg, Utah on May 6, 1936 to Elmo and Fern Sabey. He attended school in Wallsburg and Heber City.

Dee married Patricia Van Wagoner, and they made their home in Wallsburg. Together they had three children: Scott (Diana) Sabey, Susan (Kent) Payne and Shellee (Roy) Bond. They later divorced.

Dee later married Julia Ann Henningson on April 30, 1986 in Ely, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS temple.

Dee was never one to shy away from hard work. At a very young age he began herding and sheering sheep. In his later years, he often reminisced with family and friends about the good old days of herding sheep. One of his proudest accomplishments was raising award winning suffolk sheep. He traveled many miles to sheep shows around Utah. He worked many years for WW Clyde and was instrumental in building the Glen Canyon Dam. He later worked for the Provo River Water Users Association where he retired.

Dee was a loving man who devoted all he did to his family. Dee especially loved the title of “grandpa”. He always said, “Grandkids are the reward you get for not killing your kids.” Dee also loved his nieces and nephews; he always acknowledged them with a “hello Butch” or “how is my girlfriend?” Dee made everyone around him feel loved and special. His best time was spent visiting with his friends and neighbors, and spending time with his family. He had a heart of gold. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dee is survived by his 3 children, 7 grand children and 14 great-grandchildren, two sisters Yvonne (Gerald-deceased) Thompson and Beth (Elmo-deceased) Mankin and brother Ed (Marie) Sabey.

Preceded in death by his parents and his wife Julia Ann Sabey.

Due to current events, a small family and close friend graveside service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Wallsburg Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
