Dale Harry Kohler, born on August 24th, 1940, in Heber City, Utah to Harry Levi Kohler and Reba Frances Watkins, passed away on January 14th,, 2023 at the age of 82 at Mission at Community Rehabilitation Center in Centerfield, Utah. Dale’s family are extremely grateful for the dedicated and caring staff of the Center and the staff at Gunnison Valley Hospital who have not only supported and cared for not only Dale but also for his family for the last three years.
Dale loved Joyce, who was not only his wife but his best friend and fellow explorer for more than 57 years. They met while Dale was serving The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States Mission, and they reconnected while they were attending universities in Utah. She supported him in finishing his bachelor’s degree at the University of Utah, and he supported her poetic endeavors, even when he said he didn’t always understand the meaning of her poems.
Living in Midway and being a part of the town through his church positions and his life-long companionships with extended family and school friends, gave Dale joy. He was not only proud of his heritage, he felt that it was a duty to bring honor to both the legacy of his family and his community through hard work and service. He felt that his time as bishop of the Midway 4th Ward was the most humbling experience he had, in that he was given the opportunity to connect with people in profound ways.
Dale is survived by his wife, his daughter Monica (Ron Shoger), grandsons Patrick (Allie) Whiting and Ian (KaNiesha) Whiting, his sister Jane (Marty) Giles and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews who will miss him.
