Cynthia Hansen

January 31, 1958 — January 13, 2015

Our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend Cynthia Hooley Hansen passed peacefully from this world on January 13, 2015. Born Jan 31, 1958 in American Fork UT to Nina Josephine Mecham and Gene Hooley. Graduated from American Fork High School in 1976 and attended Brigham Young University, graduating in 2003 with a degree in Independent Studies. Married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 19, 1977 to George Clayton Hansen.

Cyndy served in many community capacities, including ecclesiastical callings, the Utah State Executive PTA Board, founding member of the Snake Creek Preservation Society, and many others too numerous to list. She was Wood Badge trained and served hundreds of young men in the Scouting program. She loved her home town of Midway, serving as the naturalist at Wasatch Mountain State Park and authoring a book on the pot rock structures of Midway. Her love of God’s creations is manifest in the time that she spent with her family and friends. Her love of music was enjoyed by all that heard her play the flute, piano, or harp. She was known for her ability to sense when her loved ones and friends needed advice, a hand, a meal, or even just a kind word. Cyndy led a life full of warmth, laughter, and service that shines as a beacon to anyone that felt her influence. Cyndy and her husband loved to engage and understand the world through travel, whether on the trains of Europe, while living in the UK, standing in riots in Jerusalem, during long walkabouts in Australia, or while building orphanages and water systems in Kenya.

She is survived by her husband (George), two sons (Bryan-Stacy; Nathan-Lyndie), daughter (Lauren), five granddaughters (Elizabeth, Abigail, Ada, Evelyn, Clara), two sisters (Lynette Harrington, Sandie Hendricks), and a brother (Michael Hooley). She is preceded in death by her son (Clayton).

A viewing will be held at her home on Friday Jan 15 from 5 pm to 8 pm, and on Saturday Jan 16 from 9 am to 10:30 am at Probst Family Funeral Home (79 E Main Street, Midway). Funeral Services will be held at 11 am at the Midway Town Hall (130 W Main Street, Midway). Following the funeral, Cyndy will be buried with her loved ones in the Midway City Cemetery. Following the burial, a party to celebrate her life will be held in the Midway Town Hall. All friends and family are invited to gather for food, music, dancing, and sharing thoughts.

Cyndy loved her service in Africa, building orphanages and clean water systems for families. If you would like to help her continue this work, please contact George.
