Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Craig Hill Lacey, of Heber City, Utah, passed away on May 22, 2026, following a stroke.

Craig was born on March 27, 1956, in Missoula, Montana, to George and Karma Lacey of Drummond. Growing up on the family ranch, he developed a love of trains, motorcycles, and farm machinery. Although he later left Montana to attend Brigham Young University and serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in southern Italy, he never lost his fascination with trains.

While attending BYU, Craig met and married Druann Sumsion. Together they raised four boys in West Jordan and Heber City. After a short stint back on the ranch, Craig worked as a rocket engineer in Magna while also spending Saturdays as a railroad engineer for the Heber Creeper. What began as a hobby job became a full-time career in 1997 when he became Executive Director of the Heber Valley Railroad.

Later, Craig joined Deseret Transportation as a truck driver, a job he truly loved because it took him across the country and gave him opportunities to visit friends and family along the way, all while supporting the humanitarian mission of the Church of Jesus Christ. At the time of his passing, he and Druann were serving together as Church Service Missionaries at Deseret Transportation.

Craig served faithfully in several capacities in the Church, including as a Bishop. He believed deeply in work, service, and finding joy in both - something he passed on to his family. He also proved—frequently and enthusiastically—that almost any situation could be improved with a dad joke.

Craig is survived by his wife, Druann; his siblings Alan, Rick, Joanne, Ken, and Marilyn; his four sons: Robert (Emily), Trevor (Kristy), Colin (Anna), and Cameron (Sara); 10 grandchildren; and one beloved grand-dog. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Karma Lacey.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the Heber 9th Ward chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 325 East 500 North in Heber City. Viewings will be held at the church on Tuesday, May 26, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and again Wednesday, May 27, from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Heber City Cemetery.

Our family is deeply grateful for the many expressions of love, support, and cherished memories shared in honor of Dad.
