Colleen Greenwood Gailey, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on 27 July 2020 at her home in Heber City, Utah.
Colleen was born in Murray, Utah, to David Hartley Greenwood and Mary Thelma Cox on August 2, 1949. She was the youngest of six children, twelve years younger than her next brother, and was always known, sometimes begrudgingly, as the baby sister. Growing up on the family farm in Crescent, she learned to work hard, love the gospel, and loathe chickens.
After graduating from Jordan High School in 1967, she continued her education at Ricks College and then Brigham Young University, where she graduated with a degree in journalism. She was married to Dennis Keith Gailey on 8 October 1971 in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had always wanted a large family and was blessed with six children, to whom she devoted all her time and energy. She was also guardian to two young brothers-in-law, David and Neal Young, whom she counted as her bonus kids.
She and Dennis moved to Fallon, Nevada, in 1978, where they raised their family while running a small gift shop and pharmacy. They remained in Fallon until 2011, when they moved to Heber City to be closer to family.
Colleen’s greatest joys were her family and the gospel of Jesus Christ. She also loved to make the world more beautiful. Those who knew her well know she was plagued with pain most of her life, but with her positive attitude and quick smile, she was able to make the world more beautiful.
Though Colleen never used her journalism degree professionally, her children benefited greatly from her editing skills on their countless term papers. She was an avid reader and quilter. She also enjoyed traveling the world with her sweetheart. She will be remembered for her many beautiful quilts, quick wit, remarkable memory, and her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was beloved by all who knew her and was a wonderful example of a true disciple of Christ.
Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gale, her sister Lorraine, and her grandchildren Myles, Liam and Elsie.
She is survived by her husband Dennis, her children Jared (Janalee) Gailey, Melinda (Jon) Snook, Nathan (Caitlin) Gailey, Emily (Scott) Munson, Joshua (Brooks) Gailey, and Angela (Quinn) Bingham, 25 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. She is also survived by three brothers: Noal, Lynn, and Val Greenwood.
