Clyde W Montgomery

July 21, 1931 — February 25, 2016

Clyde W. Montgomery, husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor passed away Feb. 25, 2016. He was born in Heber City, Utah to John Lowry Montgomery and Annie Webster Montgomery on July 21, 1931. He was of Scottish and English decent.

He spent his entire life in Heber Valley. Educated in local schools, graduating from Wasatch high School and LDS Seminary in 1949.

On Feb. 10, 1951 he married his eternal companion, Connie Casper. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple Feb. 10, 1955. Connie preceded him in death Oct. 2, 1996. He then married Ruth McDonald Ivie Aug. 20, 1997.

He was employed as a mechanic for Pikes Peak Garage for 21 years. In 1968 he was employed by Heber City and later by Heber Valley Special Service District as Water Treatment Supervisor. He served there for 28 years, retired in 1994. He furthered his education in water treatment through U.V.U. in Orem and at Sacrament State University. He was named “Operator of the Year” in 1974, 1985 & 1992 by Utah Division of Water Quality.

He served 9 years as Heber City Councilman. Member of Heber Valley Fire Dept. for 40 years where he served as Secretary for 39 years. He was the Director of Wasatch Canal Co. for 12 years and a member of Heber Light and Power board for 7 years.

Church callings included Bishop of the Heber 5th Ward, Bishopric Councilor, Ward Clerk and Executive Secretary to two Stake Presidents. He spoke at 154 funerals. He and Connie participated in the L.D.S. Laminite Program as foster parents for 7 years.

In 1960 he was elected President of the American Pheasant & Water Fowl Society. He served as Secretary of the Utah Pheasant Society from 1955-1970. He served as President of the Utah Fancy Poultry Association from 1990-2004. In 2006 he was honored at the National Rhode Island Red Show in Farmington, New Mexico for 50 years as an exhibitor. He was “Exhibitor of the Year” in 2002. He enjoyed participating and traveling to poultry shows throughout the western states.

His father passed away when he was 11 years old. He assisted his Mother in caring for a small dairy herd to earn a living. His interest in farming continued throughout his life with sheep and cattle. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed occasional traveling. Writing poetry was also one of his gifts. He authored numerous articles for game bird and poultry magazines.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth. Three children, Cindy (Athel) Fitzgerald, Wayne (Debbie) Montgomery and Kelly Montgomery, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, three step children, Brent (Holly) Ivie, Sharlene Ivie Stiger, and Clark (Kathy) Ivie, 7 step grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren, special friend Elva Baum. All of whom he honored and loved.

Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Connie, granddaughter Julie Ann Montgomery, foster son Eddie Clark. Seven half-siblings, William, Marvel Hylton, Mary Duke, Teenie Rasband, Neal, Nellie Madsen and Doris Clift.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 1 at 11:00am in the Heber 5th Ward LDS Chapel, 150 N 200 W., Heber City, UT. Friends may call Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00pm and 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to services. Internment will follow the service at the Heber City Cemetery.
