Carl J. Casey passed away peacefully in his home in Heber City, Utah on June 18th, 2023, after a lengthy battle with various illnesses at the age of 79. He was born on November 12th, 1943 in Piedmont, Missouri to Truman George and Veda Casey.
Carl married Rita Barnes in 1963 at the ages of 17 and 19. They just recently celebrated their 60-year wedding anniversary together. His favorite saying to Rita was, “You and me, babe!” They had two children, Kathy and Randy, whom they raised in Piedmont, a small town of around 3,000 people in Missouri.
He built a lifetime career in retail management, working as manager for the Ben Franklin store in Piedmont for 22 years until he gained employment with Wal-Mart as assistant manager. In 1992, he received a transfer from Wal-Mart that brought him to Park City, Utah. He retired in Heber City, Utah after 20 years of service with Wal-Mart.
During retirement, Carl loved woodworking, spending time with family, taking long rides in the mountains, taking trips to Missouri for family reunions, getaways to Wendover, Nevada to play the penny slots and playing on his computer. Red roses are his favorite flowers. His favorite movie actor is John Wayne. Willie Nelson, Ray Charles and Loretta Lynn were his favorite singers.
Carl is survived by his wife, Rita, daughter Kathryn Marie Varley (Daniel) of West Jordan, UT, son Charles Randal Casey (Wendy) of Heber City, UT, brothers Ted (Peggy) of Piedmont, MO and Dan (Sharon) of Lakeland, FL as well as 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents Truman George and Veda Casey, sister Betty Logsden, brother George Winfred Casey, and great- grandchildren, Castle Thurman, Archer Swainston and Matthias Swainston.
Family visitation will be held in the Heber Valley Funeral Home, 288 N. Main St, Heber City, Utah at noon on Thursday June 22, 2023 followed by graveside services officiated by his brother, Pastor T. Daniel Casey, at the Heber City Cemetery at 2 pm.
