Calvin “J” Probst passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2019 from incidents related to age.
Calvin was born November 21, 1926 to Garnet and Joseph Probst in Midway, Utah. He graduated from Wasatch High School 1944 and joined the Navy in December of that year. He was in route on a troop ship to invade Japan when the war ended and became a medical corpsman with occupation troops in Japan.
He served a full time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 1947-1949. He married Joan Hoover on June 26, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. They became parents of two children.
Calvin was a skilled and successful dairy farmer and enjoyed feeding cattle up until the month he passed away. He served on several dairy boards and traveled to many locations representing the dairy industry. In 1992 Joan passed away from cancer. Since then, Calvin visited the grave of his sweetheart almost daily.
He is survived by his children, Lynda (Tom) Walker of Port Townsend, WA, Ken (Mignon) Probst of Charleston, UT, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and brother, Wayne Probst. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held, Friday, March 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., at the Charleston Ward chapel, 3450 S. 3500 W., Charleston. A viewing will be held at the same location on Thursday, March 21st from 6:00-8:00 p.m and Friday, prior to the service, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
