Calvin Giles (99) passed away August 6, 2024, at his home in Heber City, Utah. Cal was born March 19, 1925, to Henry A. and Flossy Lake Giles. He grew up in Heber City, was a graduate of Wasatch High School, and married his high school sweetheart, Amberzine Parcell. They were sealed for time and all eternity on June 19, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Cal was a devoted husband and father. Together, he and Amber raised nine children: six sons and three daughters. Their family grew to add 33 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren, and 29 great-great-grandchildren. Cal was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Calvin worked as a dairy farmer, cattle rancher, and had a summer job for 25 years with the Provo River Water Service as the Water Commissioner of the lakes in the High Uintas. He was a member of the Wasatch County Board of Health, member of the Wasatch Jeep Patrol (Search and Rescue), board member of the Soil Conservation District, member of the Farm Home Administration, weighmaster for the Heber Cattle Association, served as President of local water companies, worked with the U. S. Forest Service, and was a member of the American Legion Lockhart Post 23. He served his country in the U. S. Army in World War II.
May Cal fill the heavens with his goodness and love. His love for the gospel was evident in his testimony, and through his actions and stories. He could recall nearly anything in the past. He was generous with all he had and loved bringing a smile to others he met along the way. His handshake was fierce. His concern for others, unshakable loyalty, and friendship will be missed and cherished by all who knew him. He taught his children to work hard, always to be kind and generous, look for the positive things in life, and to never give up. He faithfully supported his kid’s dreams and ambitions. He was very dedicated to his family and made sure they had everything they needed to pursue their dreams. Amber passed away on February 6, 2000. Cal missed her terribly and often talked about her. He talked about how she was the most beautiful and intelligent woman in the world. He was able to join his Little Amber early Tuesday morning, August 6, 2024. Cal’s optimism, love for life, and resilience are a great example to all those who love him. We are so grateful he was generally pain-free and able to enjoy good health during most of his life. We are so thankful for the legacy he left us and will always remember his example of kindness and generosity.
Cal is survived by his children: Elda Rae North, Lewis Calvin (Leisa) Giles, Dan A. (Rosemary) Giles, Ben H. (Virginia) Giles, Ernest T. (Maryann) Giles, Anita (Greg) Allen, Marcia (Rick) Mecham, Kelly Giles, and two sisters-in-law: Carol Giles and Phyllis Parcell.
Cal is preceded in death by his wife Amber Giles, son Calvin Giles Jr., daughter-in-law Carolyn Giles, granddaughter Amberlee Giles, and son-in-law Glenn Morris North.
The family would like to thank Heber Valley Medical Center, Intermountain Home Healthcare/Hospice, and Wasatch Fire District for their care.
