Barbara June Butler McReynolds passed away peacefully on the evening of May 21, 2025 in Draper, Utah. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Barbara's life was defined by service, compassion, and unwavering love for her family. Born on June 18, 1949 along with her twin sister, Bonnie, to Hyrum Grant and Lyla June Butler.
Barbara graduated from Orem High School and went on to attend Brigham Young University.
She learned shorthand when her children were young so she could type meeting minutes while the family slept, to help with household expenses. That experience with shorthand and typing led her to Utah Technical College (now UVU), where she dedicated over 20 years of service as the assistant to the Dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Her work at UVU opened doors for her children to launch their educational journeys. Thanks in part to her dedication and support, they went on to earn medical degrees, masters degrees and other academic achievements. She built lasting relationships and meaningfully contributed to the campus community. However, her greatest and proudest accomplishment was raising her six beloved children. Her love was unwavering, constant and she had a way of making them feel safe no matter what was going on around them.
On December 17th, 2005 Barbara was sealed to Jon McReynolds in the Manti Temple. Together they faithfully served in the temple and enjoyed spending time outdoors in the beauty of God's creations.
She served others through various church callings and was known for her integrity, kindness, and faithful spirit. Her life was a testament to selflessness - her own needs were always second to the well-being of her children. She worked quietly all year long to make Christmas magical, saving what she could so that each of her six children would feel the joy of the season and never go without. She had a deep and abiding love for children with special needs, always showing compassion, patience and a nurturing spirit. Her talents were many - she was skilled in typing and shorthand, a testament to her sharp mind and attention to detail. She loved to sing and was a part of the choir at different times in her life. She also had a natural gift for music and could play the piano by ear, bringing warmth and harmony into her home, especially during the Christmas season. She took pride in canning and preserving food for her family, sharing the fruits of her labor with love. She enjoyed aerobics classes and staying active by hiking in her later years. Sewing brought her joy and she often made her own clothes. She was classy and had a great sense of style. She cherished life's simple pleasures - dinner and a movie and time spent with babies and dogs always lit up her face. She held traditions close to her heart knowing that they brought her family closer and made everyday moments feel a little more magical.
Barbara had a deep and unwavering testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Every Sunday, she faithfully guided her family to their place in the pews, determined that they would come to understand the strength, hope and healing found in His atonement. Barbara's legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the countless lives she touched.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Jon McReynolds; her children: Amanda J Patten-Barney (Andy), Dirk McMurray (Kim), Brooke Smith, Buck McMurray (Kristy), Pyper Tedrow (Greg), and Angeline Alor (Kleber); and her cherished siblings: Judy Turnbow, Bonnie Lott, Brent Butler (Janet), and Susan Hansen (David). She also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry her memory in their hearts. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and June Butler, a sister, Jeniel Madsen, and a son-in-law, Phillip Thane Patten.
