Barbara Jean Horrocks Johnson Giles passed from this world Thursday, March 8, 2018 into the loving arms of the love of her life James R (Bob) Giles. Barbara anxiously awaiting the day when she could be reunited once again with her loving husband. Although we mourn her passing, we rejoice in the knowledge that she and Dad are enjoying a wonderful reunion with each other along with friends and family that she has missed so greatly.
Barbara was born February 22, 1938 to Thomas Russell and Mary VerLillian Broadhead Horrocks in Heber, Utah. As a young girl she belonged to the 4-H club where she learned to love sewing and cooking. She thoroughly enjoyed doing both for her friends and family throughout her life. She also loved music. She played several musical instruments and loved to sing. She especially loved to play the piano. She began playing an old pump organ for the junior Sunday School at age 13. Later, Barbara played for many years for the Primary. She cried when she was released in order to take a new calling as the ward organist. However, she found a new love and challenge here and enjoyed her new calling for many years as well. She played for many funerals and for the Senior Citizen Center, and she always felt it was a privilege to serve others with her talent. Barbara also loved camping and traveling with her family. Music was usually involved in these activities as well.
Barbara married William Dale Johnson May 11, 1955; later divorced. She married James R. Giles July 22, 1966. Barbara is survived by her brother, Dennis (Debbie) Horrocks, and sister Margie Ives; her 5 daughters: DaleLynn Black (Ron), Ganiel Pettit, Carolyn (Rod) Dowding, Susan (Ron) Titcomb, and Jamie (Mark) McAllister. She was preceded in death by her loving husband James R. (Bob) Giles, parents: Russell and Lillian Horrocks; brother Ken Horrocks, and son-in-law Richard Pettit.
A viewing will be held Wednesday the 14th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Thursday, funeral service will follow at 11:00 am, viewing and funeral services will be held at the 7th Ward Chapel building, 521 East 500 North in Heber.
