Arthur Jay Mair passed away Aug. 26, 2014 at home surrounded by his family, after suffering several years from a lung disease.
Art was born, leap year, Feb. 29, 1932, to Andrew “Curb” and Vera Ivie Mair, and celebrated 20.5 birthdays. (He was 82 years old at the time of his passing.)
Art was an “old-car guy.” That love began with employment during his youth at Heber Motor Company. He built Art’s Upholstery and Auto Reconditioning, and owned the business for 20 years before retiring to enjoy his life-long hobby of classic-car restoration.
He lived in Heber his entire life and was a member of the Heber Valley Volunteer Fire Department for more than 30 years.
Art was a true handyman and had the uncanny ability to fix anything.
Married Dorothy Dipo, later divorced. Art married the love of his life, Karen Carlile, on Aug. 14, 1970 .
Art is survived by his wife of 44 years, Karen, and children, Michael (Ann) Mair, Kristy (Mark) Whitaker, Debbie (Chad) Jones, Scot (Rae) Davis, and Diann (Lynn) Burgener, son-in-law, Fred Brunow, sister, Wilma Taylor, 20 grandchildren, and 26 great-grands, whom he adored.
Preceded in death by both parents, sister, Norma Haynes, and his daughter, Tresa Brunow.
Art was a man of few words, but a giant in character.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 1, 11 a.m. at the Heber 9th Ward Chapel, 325 E. 500 N., Heber City, Ut. Viewing will be the previous evening from 6 - 8 p.m. at the same location, and from 9 - 10:30 a.m. preceding the services. Interment will be in the Heber City Cemetery.
