On November 2nd, 2023 our revered father, uncle and husband, Tony Del Guidice, passed quite suddenly while out running errands. He was 74 years old.
Tony was the beloved father to Jon (34) and Neno (38), and life partner to Joy for the past 49 years. He will always be remembered as hardworking, fiercely loyal, devoted, and dearly loved and held in our hearts. While he was recently diagnosed with CPFE, he lived every day to its fullest, and spent the last few months of his life visiting his family in Arizona and California, and helping Neno with renovations on his home in Park City.
Tony was born in Lioni, Italy to Enrique and Immaculata Del Giudice and was the youngest of 7 children. Shortly after WW2, when he was just 4 years old, his parents decided it was best for the family to move to Montevideo, Uruguay. Upon arrival, Tony immediately fell in love with some of the finer things in life, como el futbol y la luz del sol. In his teens, he dreamed of becoming a doctor, and planned to study medicine, but riots, strikes and school shutdowns curbed those dreams and pushed him into the adventure of a lifetime. Tony was not a man to waste any time, so at the age of 20, he set off on a journey with his older brother, Bill, that included fishing boats in Alaska, getting smuggled over the US border due to losing his visa, and fighting with immigration for nearly three years. Finally, his determination prevailed and with much pride he became an American citizen.
Tony epitomized the immigrant success story of rags to riches, traveling to a new continent in search of a new life with only a basic understanding of the language. He kept his head down, worked incredibly hard, and throughout the years became an expert old-world craftsman working with stone, marble and tile, owning Tony’s Tile LLC for 40 years. He was a land developer, developing subdivisions in Plain City and Ogden, and built several homes. He had an indelible passion for motorcycles and cars. His favorites were his classic Corvettes, Mercedes, and Harley’s, which he would polish religiously, but hardly ever rode as he considered them collector items and found beauty in a low odometer. He retired in 2010 and had enjoyed a simple life until the end.
In addition to his loving sons and wife, Tony is survived by his two sisters, Josepina and Antonietta, as well as extended family in the United States, Uruguay and Italy. He is preceded in death by his parents Enrique and Immaculata, and his 4 brothers, Pedro, Joseph, Salvadore, and Bill.
