Alice Ann Lewis

May 26, 1942 — March 4, 2018

Alice Ann Lewis, our cherished mother and grandmother, passed away on the morning of March 4, 2018 at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by her children.

She was born in Ogden, Utah on May 26, 1942 to William & Nora Williams. She attended Weber College, studying art and english before leaving to pursue a job with United Airlines as a flight attendant. She found a love of travel, and took her mother to see England and Ireland. She was married to Alan Bruce Lewis for 32 years, with whom she had four beloved children. She embraced motherhood, and raised them with incredible love and devotion. Her faith was unwavering and she set a steadfast example for others of possessing the true attributes of Christ with her kindness and generosity to friends and strangers alike. Throughout her life, Alice shared her many talents and found happiness through her artistic pursuits. She taught art classes to youth, and had articles in multiple publications including the Ensign and Friend. After her daughter Jennifer was born with a hearing loss, she co-founded the SOUND Foundation to advocate for children with hearing disabilities. She was honored to work as the Administrative Assistant to Nevada’s Governor Guinn for seven years, and was a valued member of his staff. In 2007, she left Las Vegas and moved to her beloved Yachats, on the Oregon Coast. These were the happiest years of her life - she loved her walks on the 804 Trail, listening to the crashing waves, watching fishing boats, barges and whales from her window, taking rides up the Yachats River to buy fresh milk and pick blackberries, and attending her LDS branch in Waldport. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spoiling her visitors, especially her grandkids, with every comfort she could offer. She recently accomplished her lifelong goal of publishing a historical fiction novel, Ghosts of Yachats, leaving a legacy of her faith for her children and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William & Nora, brothers Ned, Carl, Frank, and Hal, and two infant siblings. She is survived by her four children, Scott (Krista) Lewis, Jennifer (Ken) Long, Liz (Jeremy) Thiriot, Wendy (Jake) Reni, as well as her sister, Florence Hohman and brothers Thomas Verd and Lloyd (Lora). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren whom she loves dearly.

The family would like to thank Huntsman Cancer Institute for their compassionate care given to our mother in her final weeks. A viewing will be held on Friday, March 9th from 9:30-10:30 am at the Midway LDS Stake Center (165 N. Center St.) followed by funeral services at 11am.
