Albert Neils Sundstrom (Daddy) passed away on April 20th in his home at the age of 82. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. His daughters had the special honor and privilege of caring for him through the end of his life. In a bionic body, Albert stoically fought a battle with pulmonary fibrosis and was a profound example of courage, grit, and patience. He was born the third child and the only son of four to Albert and Mable Larsen Sundstrom on October 17th, 1938 in Park City, Utah, where he grew up. He had the good fortune of experiencing youth in a home filled with love and a life full of adventures; camping, fishing, and sledding full speed down the streets of Park City. He found his eternal best friend and bride, Coleen Casper Sundstrom, while cruising with a buddy down Heber City’s Main Street in his brand new 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air. Albert and Coleen were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS temple on March 5th, 1959. Their approach to marriage was exemplary as they exhibited sincere love, devotion, and unselfishness toward each other and their family throughout their lifetime. He had a special interest in cars and a passion for driving, and could claim a lifetime collision free record. He always looked forward to the next drive and road trip. Whether it was a day excursion to explore the countryside, a weekend or vacation getaway in the family’s second home on wheels, or just “going to see a man about a horse”, he couldn’t wait to get on the road again. Albert was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings. He was a social man and always enjoyed a good visit with anyone who was interested in conversation, especially if it was about cars or anything to do with building or fixing something. He was resourceful and could fix just about anything. He believed in hard work and in enjoying the fruits of his labors. By example, he taught those virtues to his children. He was a skillful mechanic who employed that gift not only in providing for his family, but in keeping the many family vehicles running and looking in tip top condition. Albert owned a fine collection of tools and machinery. He was very talented at carpentry and built his home into a place of beauty and comfort. He often shared his gift of woodworking with family, friends, and neighbors as he created lovely and cherished gifts of wood furniture and art. He found joy and contentment in “puttering around” in his garage and in keeping a beautifully tidy yard. Albert leaves behind his greatest joy and achievement, his posterity; daughters, Aleen (Chet) Cloward, Lauri (Ken) Butterfield, Julie (Ryan) McDermott, Suzanne (Kurt) Miller, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and his German foreign exchange daughter, Claudia. He also leaves behind his sisters, Doris Young and Patricia Welch. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, parents, sister Carol Rigney, and great granddaughter Hazel Butterfield. We know they are all rejoicing in their grand reunion. We express our sincerest gratitude to Dr. Jeffery DeGrauw and his hospice team for their compassionate care.
