Al Hazelrigg

October 27, 1946 — September 12, 2016

Al passed away peacefully in his home in Oakley, that he loved, on September 12, 2016 due to an eight month struggle with a glioblastoma brain tumor. As he said “I’ve had a great life, I have no regrets”.

Al was born Alan Charles Hazelrigg III to Alan Charles Hazelrigg Jr. and Grace Marie Coleman in Los Angeles on October 27, 1946. He grew up in Lakewood, CA where he swam competitively, surfed, played volleyball, softball, and enjoyed hiking, camping and backpacking. He married Reva Hutton and they have been together more than 50 years. They have two children, a son Shawn and a daughter Casey.

Together with his young family, after visiting a few times, they moved to Park City in 1972. Once there he added new sports to his life including resort skiing, telemark skiing, cross country skiing, shooting sports, bird hunting in Idaho and fly-fishing. In the 1970’s he was named Park City’s Commissioner of Softball and proudly played for the Alamo Bums.

He retired from the sheet metal trade at age 55 and quickly returned to fly fishing as much as possible. He became a fly-fishing guide and enjoyed teaching other people the sport he loved so much. Either hunting or fishing he always had a faithful Labrador by his side. You could pretty much find him most days on the Provo River below Jordanelle where his cat “The Midge” adopted him.

He and Reva enjoyed bicycling, their camping /fishing trips to the Green and Madison Rivers and looked forward to visiting family and friends in Southern California. Their annual trips to the Oregon Coast were a fall favorite.

He is survived by his wife Reva, son Shawn (Tricia) Hazelrigg, his daughter Casey (Jim and daughter Emily) Paul, mother Dr. Grace Coleman, sisters Pam Encinas and Denise Cucurny, extended family and many friends.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held on September 24th at 2pm at the River’s Edge at Deer Park, 7000 North Old Hwy 40, Heber City, UT 84032 Condolences can be sent to P.O. Box 190, Park City, UT 84060. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your favorite Animal Rescue Organization.
