Pauline Mark Eggleston passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on March 26, 2017, in Daniel, Utah.
Pauline was born, the third of four children, on November 6, 1931, in Ogden, Utah to Edward Julius Mark and Bessie Elizabeth Lythgoe Mark. She grew up in Ogden, Utah, nestled close to “her” Wasatch mountains. After her mother remarried, she moved to Pocatello, Idaho, when she was 8 years old. As a teenager, she worked as an Usher at the Chief Theatre, a job she said was not really a job because she got to watch all of the wonderful musicals that came out back then.
She met the love of her life, her “sweetheart,” Clyde B. Eggleston, in Pocatello, when she was just sixteen, and they were married just two months before she turned seventeen. They shared sixty years together and worked side by side all of their lives. In Pocatello, they worked in Clyde’s parents’ restaurant, the Talley Ho, before they all picked up and moved to Long Beach, California in 1955. There they opened a little mom and pop grocery store with Clyde’s parents called the Surf Market.
Pauline’s life was devoted to her family, her friends, and her faith as she served in many Ward and Stake callings. Her favorite calling had to be as Road Show Director in Long Beach 10th Ward. Even though she was usually called upon to do it at the last minute, and dress rehearsals were sometimes more like “dress disasters,” she always pulled it off with her usual bounce and energy!
In 1979, Clyde and Pauline followed their daughter Teri to Kailua-Kona Hawaii, where they always said they found heaven on earth. Clyde and Pauline were quickly adopted into their ohana as the people there discovered their big Hawaiian hearts. Eventually they returned to Utah, even though they left their hearts on the Big Island of Hawaii. After Clyde passed away in Heber City in 2009, Pauline traveled between Hawaii, California, Utah and Washington State on a regular basis until she could no longer travel alone due to her dementia. The family would like to thank the compassionate care givers at the Courtside at Jamestown, and her amazing team at Comfort Worx who made the last year of her life, as well as her passing, as peaceful as possible.
Pauline is survived by three children: Teri Lee Welch, of Daniel, Utah; Steven C Eggleston (Sophia) of Newport Beach, California; and Lisa Kay Christensen (Gary) of Heber City, Utah, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Pauline is preceded in death by her parents, her “sweetheart” Clyde, and her granddaughter, Catherin Colleen Welch.
Pauline specifically requested that people not spend their hard-earned money on flowers. Instead of flowers, please bring your favorite dessert to share with everyone at the dessert bar we are having in her honor at her viewing Wednesday night. After all, mom’s favorite life-long motto was “Eat dessert FIRST!” The viewing will be Wednesday, March 29th from 6-8 p.m. at the Daniel 1st Ward building at 2885 S. Daniels Road, Heber City, Utah. There will also be a viewing at the same building Thursday morning, March 30th, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with the funeral beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Heber City Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.
