Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Merilyn Duke McGuire, passed away peacefully in Heber City, Utah, on May 3, 2022 at the age of 93.
Merilyn was born January 31, 1929 in Heber City, Utah, to Lyman Duke and Jennie Olivene Brown and was the seventh of eight children. She graduated from Wasatch High School in 1947 and attended BYU. Merilyn worked as a telephone operator for two years in the Heber office and two more years in Logan supporting her husband while he finished his college education.
On September 18, 1951, Merilyn was sealed for time and all eternity to Fay W. McGuire in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with five beautiful children, Laurie (Mike) Kohler, Midway, UT; J. Scott McGuire, Heber, UT; Bernie J. McGuire, Provo, UT; Jenny (John) Dickson, Cody, WY; and Dan A. (Cam) McGuire, Springville, UT. They have also been granted a generous posterity of 15 grandchildren, Scott Kohler, Troy Kohler, Brad Kohler, Derek Kohler, Kyle Kohler, Dustin Dickson, Jenaca Dickson Cox, Rachael Kohler Roney, Dillon Dickson, David Dickson, Jamie Dickson Christensen, Duke Dickson, Sarah Dickson Neves, Janessa McGuire and Jimmie McGuire and 35 great-grandchildren to date.
Merilyn had a very well kept home and extremely well fed family. She loved cooking meals for visitors and they loved her food. Some of her trademark dishes are potato salad, baked beans, apple pie, chocolate chip cookies, fudge, and much more. Merilyn was an avid reader and her favorite books were always seen about the house. Fay and Merilyn enjoyed being the Grand Marshall's of the Wasatch County Fair. Traveling was a favorite with Merilyn and Fay and they did so with their children and later in life in their fifth wheel trailer.
As a very faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Merilyn served as Stake and Ward Relief Society Presidents and also held several callings in Primary. Fay and Merilyn served together on a mission in San Diego, CA, as well as a local service mission.
Merilyn is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Olivene Miller, Marjorie Merkley, and Jean Howe, and her brothers, Lyman, Burton, Ramon, and Richard.
