June 21, 1931 - November 17, 2018
At 4:56 AM, his favorite time to rise for many years, on Saturday November 17, 2018, Jesse Kent Savage woke to a beautiful world. Cause of death – TMB (too many birthdays). Kent was born on June 21, 1931 to goodly parents, Leah Maude Baker Savage and Jesse Raymond Savage in Bicknell Utah, where they worked and played hard. He enjoyed his youth and loved the Fremont River, Boulder Mountain and rugged surroundings he thrived in. He played high school sports including basketball, baseball, wrestling and track. As a young man Kent worked on the Boulder Mountain cutting timber and in cattle camps. This hard working, bull riding cowboy was struck with love at first sight upon meeting Betty Jean Grass, who he married on January 26, 1952. Together they had 7 children, all girls but 5 as he would say. Kent spent his career working for telephone companies including Mountain (Ma) Bell and Northern Telecom. He started as a lineman and worked into upper management. He bemoaned the fact that he should have been born rich instead of so darn good lookin’. Kent would tell you that he cleaned up his act when his son was born prematurely and fighting for his life. He told his Heavenly Father that if he would let him live, he would change. His son lived and Kent never looked back. He and Betty were sealed in the St. George Temple with their children on May 2, 1963. Kent served in many callings including Bishop, High Counselor, Temple worker, temple patron, and Home Teacher/Minister Extraordinaire. He and Betty served a service mission together at the Lindon Bishop’s Storehouse. Kent said that the church is a hospital for sinners, not a country club for saints, and helped families prepare for and go to the temple to be sealed. He and Betty’s lives and purpose centered around family and faith. Kent took his children camping, hunting, fishing and taught them to love the outdoors. He loved sports, and was an honorary Red Sox fan, a Jazz fan, and mostly a true fan of his children and grandchildren’s endeavors whether with an organized team, throwing a ball in the backyard, playing recitals and concerts, or conquering personal challenges. Kent especially adored children. Halloween was a favorite as he greeted trick-or-treaters with his dentures out and the biggest smile he could muster. He had a gift for finding the positive in personally challenging situations, and finding the ones that needed love and encouragement. Kent bore his testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ so often to so many. He is preceded in death by his sweetheart, Betty Jean, daughter Becky Lynn, son Blaine G (Marleigh), his parents and all 4 siblings; Roween (d), Thelma (d), Jaleen (d) and Shyrl (d). He is survived by his children Kevin G (Nancy) Savage, Raymond G (Melody) Savage, Shauna S (Todd) Haderlie, Todd G (Tina) Savage, Ronald G (Gloria) Savage, 23 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He reached and impacted so many in his lifetime and leaves a rich legacy of hard work, faith, humility, joy, strength of character, humor, love and much more. In his last days, he told his daughter that he had an appointment with her Mom. This old fisherman now gets to spend eternity with the catch of his life. His family is so very proud of all he has done for good, all the hard work, love and tender watch-care he and Betty gave so tirelessly to their family. We celebrate him home. God be with you till we Meet again.
