Neal Jay Clyde

April 19, 1936 — February 4, 2025

Neal Jay Clyde passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, in Heber City, UT with his wife, Connie, by his side. He was born April 19, 1936, to Willis "Tink" Clyde & Lora Allison Clyde in Heber City.

He loved growing up in Heber, farming, tilling gardens around town, helping in his Dad's Pool Hall, Clyde's Billiards, and enjoying the outdoors. He loved to tag along with his older brothers, Marvis & Cal and he adored his little sister, Janice, who was 1O years younger than him. He always told stories of riding his horse, Tony, all over Red Ledges.

He attended the old North School & Wasatch Jr. High & graduated from Wasatch High School in 1954. He married Connie Gwen Reed, from Midway, in the Salt Lake Temple right after graduation on June 23, 1954. This past June they were able to attend their 70th Class Reunion and also celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary.

About a year after they got married, they moved to California where he worked for Chrysler. A few years later he became a Barber and spent the next 58 years barbering, owning Neal's Barber Service on Lakewood Blvd. in Bellflower, CA. It was a perfect career for him as he loved people and loved to talk! He finally retired when he was 80 years old.

He also found a way to farm in LA County. They say you can take the boy away from the farm, but not the farm away from the boy. He had a Christmas Tree Farm, with his friend, Red Webb. He was always a hard worker, and the tree farm was a great way to help teach his kids to work.

They made their home in Paramount, CA and raised their four children there, Vickie (Rick) Brown, Paramount, CA, Reed (Kelly) Clyde, Heber UT, Laurie (Paul Deceased) Duke, Heber UT, & Layne Clyde, Heber, UT. They have 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren & 6 great-great grandchildren.

Neal had a fun, outgoing personality. He was always happy and ready to have fun. He was the life of the party. There were no strangers when he was around. He talked to everyone, accepted everyone, and was a friend to everyone. He loved to golf and did until just a few years ago. In his younger years, he loved to waterski on the Colorado River and houseboat trips at Lake Mead and play racquetball every morning before work. Their home was the perfect location for family and friends to visit. They welcomed everyone and loved taking them sightseeing. He took his family on a big vacation every year ending up in Heber to be with family. He & Connie loved to travel & made it to all 50 states and many countries.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, Sunday School Teacher, Stake Sports Director, Elder's Quorum, Mission Leader, and Bishop. He was always a dedicated Home Teacher. He spent his life helping and serving others. On his day off, he would go around to the homes of his customers that could no longer come to his shop and cut their hair, never accepting any pay.

He was a wonderful husband and still, after 70 years, wrote little love notes to Connie all the time. He was such a fun dad! He supported his children in all they did and no matter what, he was always making them laugh and have fun. He was also a wonderful grandpa. He loved his family, and all of his family adored him. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Connie, his children, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, Sister-in-law, Barbra Reed Moon, and many nieces and nephews, whom he also loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis & Lora Clyde, In-laws, Alvus Bud & Vera Reed, siblings, Marvis & Johnnie Clyde, Cal & Margie Clyde, Harold & Janice Lurtsema, Drue Clyde, Alex Clyde, Brother-in-law, Vernal Moon, Son-in-law, Paul "Bummer" Duke, and great granddaughter, Shelby Kinsey.

We would like to thank all of the staff at Heber Valley Assisted Living and Tiffany Coleman for their loving care the past 4 months.
