In Loving Memory of Leo C. Smith
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Leo C. Smith, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us on October 19, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on May 27, 1947, in Mancos, Colorado, and a longtime resident of Midway, Utah, Leo lived a life of service, kindness, and unwavering acceptance, leaving an unforgettable impact on all who knew him.
Leo proudly served his country in the Army and later devoted many years to helping others as an employee of the VA hospital, where he eventually retired. Even in retirement, his dedication to his community continued through volunteer work and substitute teaching at the local school. Known for his compassion, wisdom, and steady presence, he touched the lives of countless students, colleagues, and friends.
More than just an uncle, Leo was a friend to the entire community of Heber and Midway. He graciously opened his home to many, becoming a father figure and an extra uncle to those who needed support. He was one of the kindest, most caring, and supportive people anyone could know. Leo raised his nephew, Logan aka Calvin Smith, as his own son, helping him through high school and college and inspiring him to be a better person. “I owe my entire life and who I am today to him,” Logan shared, reflecting the deep gratitude and love he holds for Leo.
Though his parents and older siblings preceded him in passing, Leo carried on their legacy of love and strength. Leo was loved and cherished by all his nieces and nephews, and all other family members, who will forever honor his memory. His life was a testament to acceptance, authenticity, and kindness—a legacy he passed down to everyone he touched.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 12th, 2024 from 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM at Heber Valley Funeral Home at 288 North Main St., Heber City, UT 84032, with a celebration of Leo’s life to immediately follow. Following the celebration, there will be a reception at the Charleston LDS Chapel at 6:00 PM at 3450 South 3500 West, Heber City, UT 84032. In honor of his generous spirit, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to charity in his name, or to his GoFundMe to assist with the services
